Garlic shrimp with apple and coastal flavor is a recipe taken from the north coast of Honduras that combines local ingredients such as coconut milk, and non-local ones such as apple and ginger. Additionally we add sliced green plantains as a complement.
Garlic shrimp with apple and coastal flavor is a combination of textures between shrimp and apple. Of flavors between the salty of the shrimp, the sweet of the apple with a little acid of the lemon with the nuances that the spices provide to the dish.
The recipe takes a bit of preparation but it is worth it with the delicious flavor that results.

Recipe Garlic Shrimp with Apple
This recipe for Garlic Shrimp with Apple is a combination of textures between shrimp and apple combined with coconut milk.
Equipment
- 1 bowl or glass bowl
- 1 Medium saucepan or pot
- 1 Large saucepan with lid
- Knife
- Ladle
- Measuring spoons
- Cutting board
Ingredients
- 1 pound of shrimp precooked
- 2 apples
- 1/3 cup coconut milk
- 12 garlic cloves
- 2 plantains green
- 1/2 white onion
- 1 tablespoon shrimp or chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- Parsley preferably fresh
- Lemon
- Olive oil to fry the shrimp
- Vegetable oil to fry the plantains

Instructions
Shrimp Marinade
- First we are going to stir the following ingredients: bouillon, pepper, oregano, ginger, cumin and salt.
- In the glass bowl we place the shrimp and add the spices and with a ladle stir well, then add the coconut milk.
- Let marinate in a cool place or in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Tip: The longer you let them marinate, the better the flavor will be.
Frying the shrimps
- Peel and chop or crush the garlic.
- We also chop the onion into julianas.
- Put the saucepan over medium high heat with the olive oil
- First we add the onion and fry for 1 minute
- Then we add the garlic and fry for an additional minute.
- Add the shrimp without the marinade, stir and fry for 1 minute.
- We cover the saucepan and lower the temperature to a simmer for 3 minutes so that the flavors are integrated.
- Tip: If the shrimp is not precooked, leave it for 2 more minutes.
- Then we add the marinade, cover and leave for 3 more minutes.
- 1 minute before removing from the heat, add the parsley.
- Remove from the heat and that’s it.
Frying the Plantains
- Heat the medium saucepan or pot with vegetable oil over high heat and add the plantain slices to fry them.
- Once the shrimp are ready, they are marinated, peel and cut the plantains into slices in the shape of your choice.
- Tip: You can add a little salt to the plantains before frying them.
- When they are to your liking, remove them from the saucepan and let them drain.
Preparing the Shrimp with the Apples
- Peel and cut the apples into julianas or squares according to your preference
- Arrange the shrimp on a plate and add the banana slices with the apple pieces
- Add a few drops of lemon.
- Note: This last step is important because it will give the dish a unique flavor.
