Guatemalan Consular Service Appointment System

You can request the issuance of a Personal Identification Document (DPI), Consular Identification Card and Guatemalan Passport

  1. Schedule your appointment through the CONSULAR SERVICE APPOINTMENT SYSTEM OF GUATEMALA.
  2. The appointment is free and cannot be transferred to another person.
  3. You must arrive 10 minutes before your appointment.
  4. Golden Citizens: Individuals over 65 years old can obtain their documents without an appointment.
  5. If you need wheelchair assistance, please contact us.
  6. The procedure is strictly personal.
  7. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, only the applicant will be allowed to enter the Consulate and must bring their own pen.
  8. In accordance with the recommendations of health authorities and to protect everyone’s safety, wearing a mask at all times and maintaining social distancing is mandatory.
  9. Recommendations for photography: Shoulders must be covered, avoid wearing blouses or shirts with light colors (white), wear discreet makeup, do not wear piercings, large earrings, or necklaces, and avoid high-collar shirts.

Passport Requirements

Original and 1 copy of one of the following identification documents and a copy of proof of address:

  • Birth Certificate issued by RENAP, valid for 6 months (containing the visible RENAP seal on the second page and the unique identification code -CUI-)
  • Valid Personal Identification Document (DPI)
  • Proof of address: utility bill for electricity, water, telephone, or any other proof of address (your name does not need to appear on it).
  • Payment only with Money Order for the exact amount and left blank.
  • For minors: Birth Certificate of the minor issued by RENAP with a validity of 6 months (containing the visible RENAP seal on the second page), accompanied by both parents identified with a Birth Certificate with a validity of 6 months (containing the visible RENAP seal on the second page). If one of the parents is not a citizen or Guatemalan, a valid passport from their country must be presented. * If any of the parents are not present, an authorization issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is required. * If any of the parents reside in the US, they can go to the nearest consulate to obtain the authorization.
  • Passport Renewal: Present the original and a copy of the expired passport. Original and a copy of the Birth Certificate with a validity of 6 months (containing the visible RENAP seal on the second page), and proof of address.
  • Passport Replacement: Present the original and a copy of the police report for the lost passport (if you don’t have the police report, you can obtain a certificate at the Consulate).
  • Birth Certificate issued by RENAP, valid for 6 months (containing the visible RENAP seal on the second page), and a valid passport.
  • Proof of address: utility bill for electricity, water, telephone, or any other proof of address (your name does not need to appear on it).
  • Payment only with Money Order for the exact amount and left blank.

– The first issuance or renewal of a passport costs $65.00.

Consular Card Requirements

Original and 1 copy of one of the following identification documents and a copy of proof of address:

  • Birth Certificate issued by RENAP, valid for 6 months (containing the visible RENAP seal on the second page).
  • Valid Personal Identification Document (DPI)
  • Proof of address: utility bill for electricity, water, telephone, or any other proof of address (your name does not need to appear on it).
  • Payment only with Money Order for the exact amount and left blank.

– The first issuance or renewal of a Consular Card costs $25.00.

Birth Registration Requirements

  • Original and 2 copies of the Birth Certificate of the child issued abroad.
  • Original and 2 copies of DPI or valid Passport (if you don’t have DPI or a passport, present a valid DPI Certification with updated marital status).
  • Original and 2 copies of the Birth Certificate of both parents with a validity of no more than 6 months.
  • If one of the parents is FOREIGN, present the original and a copy of the Birth Certificate, valid for no more than 1 year.
  • Valid passport from their country
  • If the parents are not married according to the Guatemalan government, the father’s signature is required.

Marriage Registration Requirements

  • Original and 2 copies of the marriage certificate issued abroad.
  • GUATEMALAN: original and 2 copies of valid DPI or passport. FOREIGNER: original and 2 copies of valid passport or official identification document from the country of origin.
  • Original and 2 copies of the birth certificate of both spouses. GUATEMALAN: Birth certificate issued by RENAP, valid for no more than 6 months. FOREIGNER: Birth certificate from the country of birth, valid for no more than one year.
  • If one of the spouses has passed away and is Guatemalan, attach the death certificate from RENAP.
  • If one of the spouses has passed away and is a foreigner, attach the death certificate from the country where the person passed away.

Survival Requirements

  • Original and 1 copy of valid DPI or passport
  • Foreign address
  • Indicate the Dependency for which the Survival is needed:
  • Affiliation Number for the case of the Guatemalan Social Security Institute IGSS
  • Military Pension Institute
  • State Pension Unit

Death Registration Requirements

  • Original and 2 copies of the death certificate issued abroad.
  • Birth certificate issued by RENAP, valid for no more than 6 months.
  • Identification documents of the deceased: original and 2 copies of valid DPI or passport.

Authorization Letter for a Minor who needs to apply for a Passport in Guatemala

  • Birth certificate of the minor, issued by RENAP, valid for no more than 6 months.
  • DPI or Birth certificate and original and 2 copies of the parent’s identification document who is appearing at the Consulate.
  • 2 copies of the valid DPI of both sides of the parent or guardian who will accompany the minor to apply for the passport in Guatemala.

Authorization Letter for a Minor to Travel from Guatemala to Abroad

  • Birth certificate of the minor, issued by RENAP, valid for no more than 6 months, and 2 copies of the valid passport.
  • Valid DPI or passport of the parent granting permission abroad.
  • 2 copies of the valid passport of the parent or guardian who will travel with the minor.
  • If the minor will travel with a third person who is not either parent, 2 copies of the identification document and a copy of the plane ticket are required.

All procedures must be carried out EXCLUSIVELY through this Consulate and not by third parties.
